Speeding on Houghton Road has been an issue since the introduction of a 30-mph limit. A petition to request measures to ameliorate speeding did result in the deployment of a Traffic Detection Unit in 2015. This showed that about 80% of vehicles were exceeding the speed limit. More recently the police have deployed a camera van on an irregular basis.
In 2022 Stanwix Rural Parish Council (SRPC) decided to purchase a Speed Detection Device to try to tackle the speeding issue. This was installed in April 2023 and subsequent data analysis has shown a noticeable reduction in speeding. Information on traffic volumes, speeds etc. may be found in the documents below. Overall findings are in the SRPC half-yearly reports with more detailed information in the monthly and three-monthly reports.
