Stanwix Rural Parish Council has 15 Councillors and we currently have 7 vacant seats. We are looking to co-opt members of our parish to fill these seats. Our vacancy notice is here.
The Parish is divided into 5 wards and we have vacancies resulting from the seats not being filled from the 2019 election and from Councillor resignations and absences. They are:
- Crosby & Linstock - 2 seat occupied; 2 seats vacant
- Houghton - 5 seats occupied; 3 seats vacant
- Pennington – 0 seats occupied; 0 seat vacant;
- Vallum – 1 seats occupied; 0 seats vacant;
- Wolsty – 0 seats occupied; 1 seat vacant.
You do not need any special qualifications to become a Councillor and we are a friendly team who work actively to better the community we live in. The role is voluntary. Training for new councillors is available.
We meet every month (excluding August) with meetings taking place, usually, on the second Wednesday of every month. Meetings are rotated between Houghton and Crosby-on-Eden and generally last no more than 2 hours.
To be a Parish Councillor you must be:
- a British citizen, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union, and
- 18 years or older on the day you become nominated for election
- for the whole of the 12 months prior to nomination you must:
- have been an elector of the parish and either occupied or owned/rented premises in the parish, or
- resided within 3 miles of the boundary of the parish, or
- had your principal or only place of work in that area
You cannot stand for election if you...
- are the subject of a bankruptcy restriction order or interim order
- have, within five years before the day of the election, been convicted in the United Kingdom of any offence and have had a prison sentence (whether suspended or not) for a period of over three months without the option of a fine
- work for the council you want to become a councillor for
All Councillors must agree to abide by a Code of Conduct and to declare any interests which may conflict with their duties as Parish Council members
